The grandsons of the founder of a thriving caravan dealership have been appointed as its Directors. Campbells Caravans is welcoming Daniel Campbell (35) and Mike Barnes (36) to the helm. Both are grandsons of the company?s founder, the late Barney Campbell, who established the business in 1969 on the Lostock Hall based site it still occupies today. In readiness for the role, Daniel and Mike have grown up working in the family business, as well as spending time away to pursue alternative professions; Daniel in TV and Radio Production before becoming store manager of a national music retail business, and Mike on the sales team for global automotive brands Jaguar and Mercedes. Says Daniel, ?Its an honour to pick up the reigns of a business that our family has grown and nurtured over nearly five decades. To have survived in what could be considered incredibly turbulent financial times is a testament to the business acumen demonstrated by our grandfather.? One of Campbells? first clients was Lancashire caravan manufacturer Lunar, also formed in 1969 on premises around the corner from Campbells. This is a relationship that continues today with Campbells retaining the Lunar franchise as well as having their own special edition caravan range manufactured by the firm, the Lunar Cosmos. Campbells is also a stockist for Bailey Caravans and leading awnings manufacturers Isabella and Dorema. Barney Campbell was well known in the Preston area, not just for his involvement in Campbells but also for his proud support of local football club Preston North End. Barney was a Director of the club from 1981 to 1994 and Campbells Caravans are proud sponsors of the ?Sir Alan Kelly? stand. Daniel and Mike have exciting plans in place for the business in the coming year but are intent on continuing the excellent example set by their predecessors. Says Mike, ?We?ve been handed a great responsibility and it?s very much down to us and our team now, but we have learnt from the best and have solid foundations from which to thrive so are extremely fortunate. We also have the benefit of our own experiences, both in the family business and in professions that provided us with transferrable skills.? ?The caravan industry has evolved dramatically in 46 years. We?re focused on the future and on continuing to offer the same standard of high quality product and customer service that Barney offered and that has sustained the business for three generations? he adds.
